The Adjustment Bureau (2011)

I've had friends roll their eyes at this movie, and I don't care. I appreciate originality, and I also think believers as well as nonbelievers can appreciate the message. George Nolfi’s The Adjustment Bureau blends romance and science fiction in a tale of free will versus fate. Based on a Philip K. Dick short story, the film follows politician David Norris (Matt Damon) as he discovers a mysterious organization that controls the course of human lives. Emily Blunt stars as Elise, a dancer whose chance encounter with Norris threatens the plans of the enigmatic bureau. The chemistry between Damon and Blunt anchors the film, supported by strong performances from Anthony Mackie, John Slattery, and Terence Stamp as agents of the bureau.
