Wind power surpassed coal

Wind power, for the first time in U.S. history, outpaced coal in electricity generation during the months of March and April 2023. This milestone, as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, signifies a significant shift in the nation's energy landscape towards renewable sources. Increased wind power capacity and favorable weather conditions contributed to the surge in wind-generated electricity.

This shift away from coal-fired power plants is not only a victory for wind energy but also for the environment. The burning of coal is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. As wind power and other renewable energy sources continue to grow, it is expected that the United States will further reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and move towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
