Orcas just wanted to play

Orcas, commonly known as killer whales, have been exhibiting aggressive behavior towards boats, but scientists believe it might just be playful teenagers. These Iberian killer whales, mostly young males between 5 and 18 years old, have been ramming into hundreds of boats, even ripping off rudders and causing some vessels to sink.

Experts have studied the phenomenon and concluded that the orcas are likely mimicking each other in a game of sorts. This behavior has been observed since 2020 in the waters of Spain, Portugal, France, and Morocco, with nearly 700 encounters reported.
