The Cowboys (1972)
is a classic John Wayne Western. When his ranch hands abandon him just before a long cattle drive, rancher Will Andersen (John Wayne) is forced to hire a group of inexperienced schoolboys to help him. Along the perilous journey, he teaches them the skills they need to become cowboys and men. The film is known for its portrayal of mentorship, coming-of-age theme, and action-packed sequences. The often overlooked role in this film is Bruce Dern's character. I saw this film as a child and he scared the be-Jesus out of me. Just the idea of someone being that cruel. Terrific actor in my humble opinion.
